Finding a perfume that hits you with pure love right from the first spray is rare. It’s even rarer (and riskier) when you’re going in blind based on notes alone, or when the bottle design makes you fall first. After those lines, you probably know where this is headed 🙂
Story Time
The story started back in late 2024 while we were scrolling deep into niche fragrance corners online. We still remember the exact moment we saw the Mystikum logo and bottle for the first time, the excitement was real. That well crafted glass, the clean Art Deco lines… we’ve always been drawn to 1920s style, whether in music, fashion, or our own little photography projects where we’d dress up and recreate the era. Mystikum’s aesthetic fit that world perfectly. But back then it was just an emerging brand, so we noted it, moved on, and life kept going.

Now in 2026, we’ve finally come full circle with them. And what better way to start than with The Color of Air, a real standout.
(Quick side note: we still haven’t tried their other perfumes yet. We’ve only experienced their scented candles so far, and you can read our full thoughts plus see the cozy photos we took HERE.)

First Impressions:
The first thing we noticed about the package was the size. Everything felt surprisingly substantial and premium right away but the box is rather large which gives a premium feeling.
Then our eyes went straight to the beautiful white sleeve with those subtle Art Deco inspired motifs (we’ll come back to that later). The box itself is sturdy and well made all around, but honestly, the real star is the bottle. In our opinion, it’s one of the best designed perfume bottles we’ve seen in a long time. Clean lines, perfect weight, and that unmistakable 1920s elegance shining through.

Let’s get to the best part, The Smell:
So, the smell of The Color of Air. As the name promises, it’s bright, fresh. At times powdery and fruity. What makes it stand out is that kumquat note. It’s this tiny citrus cousin from East Asia. Sweet on the outside, tangy inside, and you can eat the whole thing. We’ve actually found them in some rare-fruit shops here in Slovenia, so we know the vibe: bright, zesty, a little surprising.
The opening is pure freshness. We don’t want to sound over the top, but it’s that good. Hard to put into words without exaggerating. The brand lists coriander and bitter orange too and they are indeed very noticeable, but the kumquat blends everything into something different from your usual citrus freshies. It’s sparkling and alive and not generic.

Then the heart brings a gentle spicy fruity vibe. We get hints of blackberry and that Timut pepper, while the base sneaks in early with soft patchouli and woody notes. These two later on will become a little sharper but with an elegant twist. A very interesting and unique smell.
The whole thing feels simple on paper, but the blending is spot on. Everything flows so naturally. In our honest opinion, this is a 10/10 in the woody/citrus category. Easily one of the best we’ve come across this year.

Back to the Packaging and that Gorgeous Bottle!
The packaging is solid. A sleeve that comes in a beautiful tonality of white colour and their tasteful branding design all around. The box is a sturdy black box with their logo in front and some side graphics. The bottle sits very snug inside, so take it slow when pulling it out. The bottle and cap themselves? Pure art. That 1920s Art Deco taste are a thing of beauty. This perfume is a beautiful object you could leave on display easily!

That Performance!
The performance is Impressive! It lasts a good long time on skin (we’re testing in winter with indoor heating here in Europe). The projection is surprisingly powerful for such a style of a fragrance. It fills the space noticeably when you first spray, and the scent trail stays in the air for quite a while after you walk by. We’ll come back with warmer weather updates as spring and summer arrive.

Final Thoughts
This was our first time experiencing a Mystikum’s perfume, and The Color of Air shot straight to our top niche fresh discoveries of the year. It’ll probably stay there for a long time. Remember that opinions about smells are very subjective but we dare to say that this perfume has that “blind buy safe” tag all over its gorgeous presentation 🙂
