We always say that as we get older in this perfume collecting world, presentation and bottle design matter less. After so many discoveries, it’s clear: the liquid inside is what counts. Well… today we’re eating those words because of Kinetic Perfumes Barcelona.
When we first stumbled on their website, we stopped scrolling. The bottles looked special, simple, minimal, elegant. We didn’t know the people behind it or the perfumers yet; we just knew the concept and design were fabulous.
Turns out the founder Kris Marciniak visited Milano Essence, got inspired, and decided to build something with that level of taste. Crazy story, but mind blowing execution. Behind the brand is a beautiful concept: turning memories, emotions, and the invisible energy of motion into scents we wear every day. Kinetics as art. We dig that philosophy, but the real proof is in the wearing.
(More on the team/design side in our upcoming podcast season so stay tuned!)
The perfumers? Heavy hitters: Chris Maurice, Miguel Matos, Marc Daniel Heimgartner, Mark Buxton, real masters.

Let’s talk the Kinetic experience
We also got the discovery set (more on the other three standouts at the end), but our two absolute favorites were Sillage (Maruša’s pick) and Verdigris (Daniel’s). You will see by the end of this blog why 🙂

Presentation First:
These bottles are heavy. Thick glass, magnetic cap with a golden ring showing the brand name. They look black at first glance, but in light the glass have a beautiful amber tone. The bottles come in a sleek minimalist box that slides shut perfectly, keeping everything protected inside, plus a nice paper sleeve.

Did we say minimal elegance? Of course! Because it’s everywhere
Downside? Dust and fingerprints show up fast so extra polishing needed to keep them shiny. Worth it.
The treasure’s themselves
Sillage (Maruša’s Favorite – by Chris Maurice)
Stunning from the first sniff. On paper, suede leather + saffron + and raspberry isn’t groundbreaking. Plenty of frags do that, but here it’s magical and sexy.
To us, it’s unisex, but it shines brighter on a woman (so it’s staying on Maruša’s shelf :D).

The opening is magnificent. To our noses, the suede leather, raspberry, and a healthy dose of beautiful saffron come through so clear and clean. They have a bright nuance that we attribute to the listed violet note. We swear we can detect iris too, even though it’s not in the breakdown. Oud is listed as well, but we can’t feel any of it.

The heart makes you realize how this perfumer blends jasmine and olibanum so perfectly. The floral note stays subtle, while the olibanum smells so natural. We have some raw frankincense at home, and it really smells just like this. Incredible perfumer.

The base of Sillage is all about clean sweetness. We mostly get vanilla and suede here. And by the way, that suede leather note carries beautifully from beginning to end.
Notes (brand list):
- Top: Oud, violet, saffron
- Middle: Raspberry, olibanum, jasmine
- Base: Suede, musk, benzoin, vanilla, amber
Performance and versatility? Outstanding. Starts super loud, lasts over 6 hours on skin, leaves a trail everywhere (the name fits perfectly). Great for winter/autumn, but we’d wear it early spring too. Any occasion. Work, errands, home.
Safe blind buy? Absolutely!

Verdigris (Daniel’s Pick – also by Chris Maurice)
Chypre Floral, one of Daniel’s favorite categories. It feels familiar and sparks nostalgia for those 90’s men’s fragrances. We love that era, so this was instant love!
Notes are many on paper, but to our noses it’s surprisingly simple and masterfully blended.

Good gracious!…The opening in Verdigris is everything you want from bright citruses, spicy nutmeg and white florals. It is PERFECT! Attention, though: this stage is the only part where the perfume feels unisex (at least to our noses).
Lemon, bergamot, jasmine, orange, all there and once again, blended to deliciousness. We don’t know how Chris Maurice managed to make the jasmine note go from a tender little flower to an indolic force. Incredible!
The heart is where the notes on paper suggest a more feminine tendency, but in reality it’s where the masculinity starts shining through. A lot of floral notes wrapped around that “blue” veil some ’90s fragrances were known for. At least for us who lived through that era as young adults.

The end of this olfactory experience is where all the official base notes in Verdigris feel bright and clean. Like the best soap you’ll ever use meets the most amazing smelling cologne. Remember, we’re still in masculine territory.
Official Notes from Verdigris
- Top: Orange, lemon, bergamot, jasmine, lime
- Middle: Calone, freesia, coriander, cyclamen, nutmeg, violet, rose, mignonette
- Base: Amber, patchouli, cedar, musk, oakmoss

Performance and Versatility
Great for casual outfits. We’re still in late winter here in Europe, but it’ll glow even more in warmer weather, that’s for sure.
Performance is solid. Many hours on skin, just like those classic ’90s fragrances of this kind.
We’ll just say it: if you enjoy this particular style of fragrance, this is a signature scent contender. Not sure if we’re craving olfactory memories from back in the day when things were really cool, but Verdigris brings all of that and more!
And remember, this is unisex only during the first 10 minutes 🙂

Quick Hits from the Rest of the Set (no particular order):
Kayu: Orange powder floating in the air while walking through a rainy forest early morning.
Unreal: An aromatic paradise on a bed of ashes.
Tulua: Italian gelato meets salty vetiver, with jasmine hugging them both 🙂
Final Thoughts
We always say the juice matters more than the bottle… but Kinetic Perfumes made us happily eat those words. The design is stunning, the execution is flawless, and the scents inside? Real gems from real masters. A perfume brand and concept that is proof that when taste, talent, and obsession meet, something special happens.
