Sarah Baker: Artist, Creator, and Perfumer

The world of Sarah Baker offers a unique blend of artistic vision and olfactory creativity, merging the realms of glamorous cinema and fine perfumery. Though we’ve only experienced a handful of her creations, her perfumes and artistic style have already made a lasting impression.

Sarah Baker is an American-born artist based in London for over two decades. She is a creative director, perfumer, and filmmaker whose work evokes the elegance and drama of bygone eras. Her brand is rooted in personal memories and cinematic inspirations, seamlessly marrying artistry with luxury.

A Background of Glamour and Nostalgia

Sarah Baker’s creative portfolio extends beyond perfumery to glamorous fashion films, many of which feel like time capsules from the 80s. Think deep red lipstick, shiny outfits, and a nostalgic color palette reminiscent of soap operaslike Dynasty and Twin Peaks. These visual homages to a golden age of television encapsulate her love for period pieces, rich storytelling, and artistic flair.

This background in visual storytelling extends into her perfumes, with each fragrance telling its own tale, drawing on cinema, personal history, and artistic exploration.

“Every Sarah Baker fragrance is an artistic expression intertwined with her personal memories and cinematic inspirations”

1. The Extrait de Parfum Collection

These luxurious fragrances are bottled memories, each carrying a deeply personal connection to Sarah’s past. For example, the red color of the bottles pays homage to the Golden Gate Bridge, a landmark she visited with her father as a child. The logo draws inspiration from an amusement park where her father worked during her childhood.

The Extrait de Parfum collection features nine fragrances, all in highly concentrated formulations. Unfortunately, accessibility has been a challenge for us in Slovenia, but we’ve had the pleasure of sampling Charade:

  • Charade
Inspired by the romance and intrigue of the classic film Charade starring Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant, this is a bold, intoxicating scent. Although we only tried it once on a paper strip, it left a lasting impression with its cinematic essence and powerful projection.

2. The Eau de Parfum Collection

While also highly concentrated, the Eau de Parfum line is described as having a more “cologne” approach—fresher and more vibrant. We’ve explored two fragrances from this line:

  • Bascule
Named after the elegant arch of a horse’s back as it leaps, this perfume is inspired by Charlotte Casiraghi, effortlessly chic while horseback riding. To us, it’s all about the animalic leather, paired with notes of tobacco, peach, fresh grass, hay, and lily of the valley. It’s bold, unisex, and beautifully performed. Created by Ashley Eden Kessler, it is as captivating as its equestrian muse.

  • Symmetry
An unexpected take on oud, blended with citruses to create a fragrance that feels fresh rather than dark. With notes of oud, neroli, petitgrain, bergamot, amber, and musk, this perfume is vibrant and versatile, defying typical Westernized oud expectations. Crafted by Chris Maurice, it’s a standout choice for hot days while maintaining a sophisticated edge.

Whether through perfume or film, Sarah Baker continues to captivate with her unique blend of artistry and storytelling. From the Golden Gate Bridge to her love for 80s glamour and timeless films, these perfumes invite wearers to step into a story of luxury, creativity, and nostalgia.
