Comme des Garçons Series 3 Incense: Avignon

Hello, dear reader! We hope you’re having a fantastic day. For today’s chapter, let’s discuss about one of the most intriguing creations we’ve encountered: Incense Avignon from the Comme des Garçons Series 3: Incense Collection.

This fragrance it’s an experience and a moment of reverence captured in a bottle. Designed by master perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour, Avignon is part of a series inspired by religious rituals, with each perfume evoking the sacred essence of different spiritual practices. While we originally sought Kyoto, which was sadly out of stock, fate led us to Avignon, and we couldn’t be more thrilled.

What does it smell like?
Imaging stepping into a grand, ancient Catholic cathedral. The wooden pews are weathered, the air thick with the holy smoke of burning incense. The first spray brings a burst of resins and incense—a bright, almost fresh chamomile note briefly shines through, but it’s quickly overtaken by the richness of woods and smoky tones. As it settles, there’s a soft undercurrent of patchouli and vanilla, adding warmth to the drydown.

This is like a vivid memory. For us, it’s Sunday mornings with grandma, sitting in the stillness of an old church, surrounded by an aura of devotion and age-old rituals.

“If you get a chance, check out the entire Series 3 Incense line. Each creation is a tribute to the spiritual and olfactory essence of its respective faith”

Performance & Presentation
Avignon leans more on the artistic side of perfumery. Its projection isn’t beastly, nor is its longevity groundbreaking—expect around 4-5 hours of wear before it fades into a subtle skin scent. But its charm lies in the emotional and sensory journey it offers.

The bottle design is sleek and minimalist, though not particularly robust—handle it with care! At 80 EUR for 50ml, it’s reasonably priced for a niche offering, though its longevity might make you reach for a refresh spray or two.

Incense lovers, this is one to try. Bertrand Duchaufour has masterfully encapsulated the solemn, sacred atmosphere of Catholicism in liquid form. Whether it’s Avignon or another from the collection, you’re in for a one-of-a-kind aromatic journey.
